Mr. Kashif Mansoor has joined as Assistant Professor the Department of Economics in Mirza Ghalib College in February 2021. He has completed his M.Phil in Applied Economics from Centre for Development Studies (JNU), Kerala, and Masters in Economics from the Hyderabad Central University, Telangana. Mr. Mansoor was at Sri Venkateswara College, University of Delhi, for his BA (Hons) Economics during 2010-2013. As an off-campus deregistered scholar, he is pursuing his Ph.D in Economics on “Implementation of the Minimum Wages Act, 1948 and its impact in India”, from Centre for Development Studies (JNU), Kerala. He was a visiting scholar at Maynooth University, National University of Ireland for three months in 2020, under the Ph.D Abroad Fellowship programme, sponsored by CDS (JNU). His research interests include minimum wages, labour market and social identities (especially Muslims), and environmental pollution. His M.Phil thesis was on labour force participation and occupational attainment of Muslims in India. He has to his academic credits four research articles published in international refereed journals. In his most recent published research article at The Indian Journal of Labour Ecconomics, Mr. Mansoor (with Vinoj Abraham) argues that occupational segregation rises with increasing levels of education, and that Muslims like SCs and STs are concentrated in occupations having decent work deficits. Mr. Kashif has also written several opinion pieces for online forums, including recently published ones on the impact of COVID-19 induced lockdown on vulnerable workers. His other academic interests include Islam and gender discourse, and Islam and its interpretation in India.
